12u and 10u Tournament Team Tryouts, May 13, 10 am

By KCRBL 05/09/2023, 3:45pm EDT

The following is the tryout date and time for our 2022 12u and 10u all-star teams that will compete in local games and/or tournaments in preparation for the district/area tournament at the end of June.

The tryout is Saturday, May 13, 10 a.m. 12u will try out at Jocker Field and 10u will try out at Kendall Field. Please email the league president to indicate if your player will attend the tryout so that we can anticipate how many players will be there.

Bill Huffman is the manager of the 12u team. Assistant coaches will be determined soon.  Chad Balser is the manager of the 10u team. Assistant coaches will include Chris Tibbetts.

Players trying out must already be on KCRBL Cal Ripken baseball teams. The listed age for the level (12u or 10u) reflects the age of the player as of May 1. Players should come to the tryout fully prepared to field, throw, hit, etc., bringing all of their regular gear with them.

Players should understand the commitment required of being on an all-star team. Practices are important for building team chemistry, communication, understanding of one another, working with the coaches, etc.

However,  we understand that players, particularly at these ages, have other commitments and can be constrained by family schedules; we would love to have kids who are able to commit to a full schedule, but we understand some kids play multiple sports and may not be able to make all of the practices, or even all of the tournaments. We encourage any player who has a desire to play to come out, and we can address scheduling concerns after looking at what we've got.

It is possible that not everyone who attends the tryout will make the team.

The registration fee for players who make the team is $130, which covers fees for tournaments or one-off games against other leagues (such as game balls, awards, umps), chartering and insuring the team, hat, shirt, belt, and socks. Only after making the team will parents need to make payment.

12u tournament and game schedule to come, but anticipate the 12/70 area tournament to be the weekend of June 23-26.

10u  tournament and game schedule to come, but the Plymouth Invitational tournament is June 17-18 and the 10u area tournament will be the weekend of June 23-26.

Majors/Minors Evaluations

By Billl Huffman 03/18/2023, 9:30am EDT

We are holding our evaluations for all players new to the Majors and Minors levels on Sunday, March 26, indoors at Kingswood Regional High School

Hello KCRBL families of players entering Majors and Minors,

On Sunday, March 26, we are holding our tryouts sessions (evaluations) for all players new to the Majors and Minors levels. The evaluations will be held indoors at Kingswood Regional High School in Wolfeboro.

These are evaluations, which provide baseline skills data for all the coaches, inform the league about appropriate placement of players at each level (particularly for those wishing to “play up” or who have not been part of our program in the past), and provide info in order to form fair teams (where and as much as possible).

We will be evaluating the Majors players first, at 10 a.m. Then the Minors players will have their evaluations at 12:30 p.m. We will have a check-in table where parents bring their athlete(s) for the tryout. We strongly encourage parents to drop off their kids and then return to get them when it is over. Tryouts will last 90 minutes to two hours depending on number of players.

Players should arrive shortly before their time slot to check in. Within a week after the evaluations, coaches will reach out to their players and families.

The tryout includes fielding groundballs, catching pop-ups/flyballs, throwing to a target after fielding, hitting and bunting, running, and pitching for those who are interested in pitching. Each player should bring a bat (if they have one), their mitt, a batting helmet, and a water bottle. Sneakers only; no cleats for the tryout.

During the Majors evaluation at 10 a.m., any 10-year-olds considering playing up but who have not registered for Majors may attend. If coaches feel the player is not ready for Majors; the player may be asked to also participate during the Minors evaluation that follows.

Any 8-year-olds who are considering playing up to the Minors level must come to the Minors evaluations so that we can ascertain whether the player is ready for this level.

Registration for the 2023 baseball and softball seasons of the Kingswood Babe Ruth / Cal Ripken Baseball League (KCRBL) is open.

Registration is open for 2023 Kingswood Cal Ripken / Babe Ruth Softball and Baseball

Registration for the 2023 baseball and softball seasons of the Kingswood Babe Ruth / Cal Ripken Baseball League (KCRBL) is open.

Visit www.kcrbl.com and click on the Registration button to register your children for participation and/or yourselves for coaching/volunteering.

KCRBL made a conscious decision to keep our registration fees the same as the last few years. All levels of softball (8u, 10u, 12u) are $75. Baseball registration is $90 for Majors (ages 11-12) and Minors (ages 9-10), and $50 for Rookie (ages 7-8) and T-Ball (ages 4-6). Ages are based on “league age.” “League age” is defined by Babe Ruth League Inc as the player’s age as of May 1, 2023, for baseball, and as of December 31, 2022, for softball.

Registration is open to all youth within our league boundary of Brookfield, Effingham, New Durham, Ossipee, Tuftonboro, and Wolfeboro.

Also, Junior Babe Ruth Baseball is here for another season, for ages 13 to 15, at $150 per player, but for 2023, our league boundary is expanded to include Alton, Alton Bay, and Middleton. Know people in those towns? Let them know that their 13- to 15-year-olds have a Babe Ruth league to play in this summer. The registration fee covers tournament fees, uniforms, umpire fees, insurance, equipment, and more.

Junior Babe Ruth basically begins when the school season ends. Some practices will occur in May, but games will be early June to mid-July. So, local ballplayers can participate in both school ball and Junior Babe Ruth. The goal is to schedule 14 games and one tournament at a minimum with practices throughout the season.

Deadlines to register are: Majors/Minors/Rookie Baseball on Thursday, March 23; Softball on Thursday, March 23; T-Ball on Friday, April 14; and Junior Babe Ruth Baseball 13-15 on Monday, May 1.

KCRBL accepts all major credit cards for payment through their online registration system. www.kcrbl.com

If money is an issue and is holding you back from signing your child up for KCRBL, we encourage you to apply for a sports scholarship and even equipment assistance through The Nick's Youth Assistance Scholarship Program or Ossipee Children's Fund.

The Nick, a long-time partner of KCRBL, is proud to be able to award upward of 50 scholarships annually and is committed to ensuring all children in our community have the opportunity to play organized sports. Scholarship applications and more details can be found at www.thnick.org/yap and submitted to Holly@TheNick.org or mailed to The Nick, PO Box 838, Wolfeboro NH, 03894.

The Ossipee Children's Fund provides tuition assistance for many programs, including  recreation, for eligible children living in the KCRBL towns of Effingham and Ossipee. The organization was established on the premise that children of working parents or parents seeking employment should be assured a secure environment in which to learn, socialize, and play. Scholarship applications and more details can be found at https://www.ocfnh.org/ .

When you register on KCRBL's website, you will not be able to complete the registration right away. Notify KCRBL that you’ve applied for scholarship, and then send us a copy of the YAP certificate to KCRBL upon receipt. At that time, KCRBL will issue a “discount code” to apply to your registration during checkout.

Keep visiting the KCRBL website and their Facebook page to get the latest news and information, from evaluations to tournament teams and more! Check our FAQ page for answers to common questions, too.

Coaches and Volunteers Needed

By KCRBL 02/19/2023, 5:30pm EST

Kingswood Babe Ruth / Cal Ripken League (KCRBL) needs coaches and volunteers for the 2023 season (and beyond).

We need coaches for multiple levels of baseball and softball. Never coached before? No worries. We can provide guidance, practice plans, and support throughout the season. We also provide the equipment that you need.

For 2023, we are also providing player registration reimbursement for coaches. Anyone who volunteers to be head coach of a team and does so for the duration of the season will get a check to reimburse 80% of the registration fee of one child in the coach’s family at the time equipment is returned after the season is over.

In your account on our website, you can select “Head Coach,” “Assistant Coach,” “Team Parent,” or “Volunteer” during the registration process of your player. Someone from KCRBL will subsequently reach out to you to confirm your interest and begin the onboarding process.

KCRBL is also seeking volunteers to be league officers: Treasurer, Secretary, Assistant VP of Softball, Sponsorship/Fundraising Coordinator, and Concessions Coordinator. Please select “Volunteer” in the registration and contact league president Bill Huffman so that we can begin your involvement as soon as possible.

All coaches/volunteers must submit to and be deemed eligible through a background check and complete abuse prevention training before participating in any team activities.

Welcome to the New KCRBL.com

By Bill Huffman 02/19/2023, 4:45pm EST

The new KCRBL website is now through SportsEngine. We hope this provides a better, more dynamic user experience for our players, families, and community.

Because this is an entirely new platform, you must create new accounts for you, your player, and your family when you register for participation in the KCRBL.  No player and family data (accounts) carried over from the previous platform.

Please let use know if something is not working properly or is erroneous, and we will do our best to correct the issue quickly.

Umpiring Clinic Saturday, April 2

By KCRBL 04/05/2022, 12:15pm EDT

Become an umpire for local baseball games!

Kingswood Cal Ripken Baseball (KCRBL) is holding an umpiring clinic at Kingswood Regional High School on Saturday, April 2 at 2:30 p.m.

Gary Noyes of the Granite State Umpire Association (GSUA) will be teaching the clinic to local high school ballplayers and anyone else (high school age or older) who are interested in umpiring local Cal Ripken baseball games this spring.

KCRBL and GSUA recognize a shortage in umpires in the area, particularly to umpire Minors level games (10u). Those who complete the clinic and then umpire games this spring will be eligible for compensation in the form of student community service credit hours and/or financial stipend.

Some baseball knowledge and/or experience is needed, but this clinic is meant to teach and for aspiring umpires to learn. No advance registration needed. Arrive at the KRHS baseball field on McManus Way by 2:30 p.m. for the clinic.
